The Fruit of the Spirit

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)

Most of us have heard of the Fruit of the Spirit, and have probably heard the catchy song that goes with it, right? But how many of us have really thought of ways we can apply these things to our life? Matthew 7:16 says: "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" (KJV). I think that what this verse is saying is that say, you see someone treating their elders with respect, people will think of you as a good person, but if you are constantly disrespectful to your elders, they aren't going to think of you as a very respectful person. You see what I'm saying? Imagine what people will think of your character if you show all nine fruits all the time! I'm not saying you can be perfect, we all slip up and make mistakes. What I'm saying is that people will want to be around us more when we show these things. For the next few weeks, I will go over one or two "fruits" weekly until I've written about all nine of them. So, today, I'll be covering "Love" and "Joy".

#1: LOVE

Romans 12:9-10: "Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.." (KJV)

Loving people who have done you wrong is hard. So very hard. It is so easy to be upset with people who have ridiculed or made you upset. Holding grudges is so easy to do. It's important to let go of the hurt and pain, and love the person who hurt you. Matthew 5:44 says: "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.." (KJV) Gosh, this is hard to do! It is very hard for me to let go of stuff and not hold grudges as I am a very stubborn and passionate person, and my emotions sometimes get the best of me, but with the Father, all things are possible.

Here's a powerful song about loving other people:

#2: JOY

"A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." Proverbs 17:22

Having joy when things get tough is something that all of us struggle with from time to time. It is so hard to be happy when life drags you down. It can be hard to remain cheerful when you get blow after blow, but know that it will get better eventually. It really will. Pray, and ask the Father to help you to be joyful always, even when life is tough.

Here's a song about being joyful:

Look for my next post in this series next week!

Goodbye for now,

Kyra :)
