Being Yourself When the World Tells You Differently

Updated: Jul 17, 2018

It is so hard to be yourself when it seems like EVERYONE is wanting you to be something different. The bible talks about how you are just the way you need to be, but the world is constantly telling you things like "you're not pretty enough"or "you'll never fit in" or "you're not good enough" (just to name a few). Believe it or not, these statements are all lies. The world says you're not good enough, but your heavenly Father says differently. He says you're "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14). Gosh, there are so many different messages, and it can be so confusing sometimes. It is so sad how many people change who they are for other people, the world, etc. Imagine what would happen if nobody tried to fit in and decided to always be themself? The world would be a much more different place. Let's take a look at some scriptures:

1 Samuel 16:7- "But the Father said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Father seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Father looketh on the heart."(KJV)

This says a lot! While "man" (aka the world) looks at the outward appearance, the Father looks at the inward appearance. The world is so worried about who has the best hair, the best clothes, etc, but the Heavenly Father doesn't care about all of that; he cares about your heart and what your heart looks like.

Proverbs 31:30-"Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Father, she shall be praised." (KJV)

This doesn't just apply to us women, it applies to all of us. Beauty isn't important. Sure, it's okay to want to look nice/presentable, but that shouldn't be your main focus. Following the Father should be your main focus.

Galatians 1:10-"For do I now persuade men, or the Father? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Messiah." (KJV)

This kind of hits home with me. Where is your focus? Is it on pleasing men, or your Heavenly Father? That's something all of us need to consider. Who is our master? The world, or the Father?

In closing, I hope this has inspired someone out there. These are just some of my thoughts on this subject. Message me if you'd like to talk about some of these things, I'd be glad to respond as soon as possible.

P.S. Check out the songs at the bottom, they go along with today's topic in my opinion. :)
